Meeting the extended Burke Family

We went home this Labor Day weekend for several reasons - Mama had a bridal shower for her friend Jackie, Daddy had his annual golf outing with his Dad and brothers (Jason and Dad won - Woo Hoo!), and Grammie and Pappy had a picnic which gave everyone a chance to meet Landon!

Landon with Uncle Ira (Daddy must get his love for pink shirts from Uncle Ira)

Does this family have something against girls?!!?!?

The Burke Family

While we were at the picnic hanging out with family, we found out the Landon likes grass! We are told most babies do not, but he didn't seem bothered by it at all, and actually kept picking it! And it seems that he loves trees, too! Do we have a treehugger baby???

Happy 5-month Birthday, Landon!

Time DOES fly by when you have kids! I look at pics of when Landon was born and it seems so surreal that he is 5-months old! As I mentioned in the last blog, he is rolling over; eating his 'first' baby fruits, cereal and oatmeal; has great hand coordination; bounces in the Jumperoo, and the biggest achievement of all - he cut his first tooth on his birthday! However, this has not been a fun process for Landon, Mommy or Daddy. Lots of crying, drooling and biting. After weighing him at MeMa's house, we think he is 20 pounds! He is a big boy! We have already bought his covertible car seats because he'll be too big for the infant seat pretty soon. His eyes have still not changed and are bright blue. We are all hoping he keeps them. And each day gets more of that bleach blonde hair.

He's just so awesome!

Christmas Letter in August

You know how many folks include a Christmas letter in their Christmas card updating everyone on family events during the year. Well, this blog includes weekly updates for each of us (no photos this week)...

Jason is heading back to school tomorrow. Teachers start their planning, setting up rooms, attend teacher development classes, etc. He will definitely miss being a stay-at-home dad and mostly spending time with Landon. When Landon goes to daycare for the first time tomorrow it will be harder for Dad than Landon. Jason is starting to play flag football again this fall. His co-ed team had practice on Saturday. And of course he'll be attending several PSU football games this fall, too.

Landon is starting day care tomorrow. He is mastering the art of rolling over...so much that he rolled over twice during nap time in the crib, and we had to 'save' him. We can no longer leave him on the changing table unsupervised. However, while on the changing table, he is touching his toes, so he is discovering that he had legs and feet. Landon is a pretty good eater now - he'll eat rice cereal, applesauce and bananas. He is teething, so we're expecting to see his teeth break through any day now. Still waking up once in the middle of the night... Mama and Daddy will be happy when that stops!

Amy is back into the full swing at work. Realizing that when the breastfeeding stopped, so would the knock-out figure, I signed up to run the Richmond half-marathon in November. Aunt Sissy is running with me and I have also joined a mom's running team to help with the training and most importantly motivation! It'll be nice for everyone to have a routine now that Daddy is back to school, but who will run my errands?!!?!?

Summer Visit

On Saturday morning we watched Daddy play softball and then in the afternoon, Uncle Dave and Aunt Sissy came over to visit with Grandpa and we all went to James River Cellars, a local winery. We tasted some wine and then bought a few bottles and sat on the patio and drank some wine and talked. It was a really nice afternoon. As you can see Landon really enjoyed hanging out with Grandpa!

Grandpa's visit

Grandpa (Amy's Dad) came up for a long weekend to visit the Burke family. Mama took off work on Friday and we went to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home, in Charlottesville, VA. The house was really impressive (architectually) and the grounds and gardens were beautiful. We had a really nice time walking around. It sprinkled a little bit, but the temperature was perfect! Afterwards we went to a little deli for lunch and then tasted some wine at Jefferson Winery. It was great day!

Happy 5-year Anniversary!

Mama and Daddy celebrated their 5-year wedding anniversary today! (We made it!) We went down to Williamsburg for the weekend and Grammie and Pappy watched Landon. We golfed, (Amy) went to the spa and had a delicious dinner a the Fat Canary. It was really good! We will definitely go back down to Williamsburg this fall and do more of the Colonial Williamsburg-thing...we just didn't have enough time this weekend.

Mmm, Mmm...good!

Dr. Terry, our pediatrician, gave us the green light on feeding Landon rice cereal. After a few days, he has gotten the hang of the spoon and now eats like a champ! Feeding time is a little messy from both Mom not always making it into his mouth and Landon smearing cereal all over his face...I can imagine what he is going to look like when we give him peas!!

Ashley, Trey & 'Rents

Our good friends Mike and Lisa stopped in at Hotel La Burke for the night from their drive from the Outer Banks to Cleveland, OH. We have met Ashley before, but this was our first time to meet Trey and their first time to meet Landon. As you can see, they are beautiful children! It was really good to see them and are looking forward to our next visit in October! (parents only!)
